Indian manufacturers have raised export offers of HRC by about USD 30/MT. Indian exporters are eyeing a price level of USD 490-500/MT, FoB India main port for late December /January shipments for commercial grade HR coils.
Offers have been increased on account of higher coking coal prices in global market. Although no major deals have been heard settled at these levels.
Last offers were assessed in the range of USD 460-465/MT FoB India. However for quite some time, Indian exporters have held their export offers owing to better realization in domestic market.
Market participants report ” Indian manufacturers have raised HRC export offers due to rising cost of production. Few trades have been heard in the range of USD 490-495/Mt FoB India for Europe.”
Impact of demonetization
Imposition of demonetization policy on 8 th Nov’2016 by Indian government to scrap the higher value currencies of INR 500-1000 denominations notes in order to restrict black money in India has bought liquidity crunch in the country.
This has seriously affected the steel demand and sales have dropped significantly in domestic market.
”Because of demonetization in India,trading has become sparse and steel consumption has been declined to great extent as secondary manufacturers do business mostly on cash basis”. quoted by one of the trader.
Manufacturers may Increase Prices despite high inventories with traders.
Manufacturers are likely to increase prices by INR 2000-3000/MT owing to rise in coking coal price. Although steel demand has become extremely weak and Indian manufacturers are finding it difficult to clear out the inventories, despite any prices hike will not be absorbed by the market.
Current offers for 2.5mm HRC are assessed at INR 32,500-33,000 (ex-mill). Meanwhile HRC offers are assessed at INR 38,000-38,500 (ex-Delhi), INR 38,500-39,000 (ex-Mumbai). Prices are inclusive of excise duty @ 12.5%.
While CRC offers are heard to be in the range of INR 44,000-44, 500/MT (ex -Delhi), INR 44,500-45,000 (ex-Mumbai).Prices are inclusive of excise duty @ 12.5%.
