Taiwan Iron Ore Import Down by 29% in Sept’16

Taiwan, the world’s sixth largest iron ore importer has imported 1.53 MnT iron ore in Sept’16, according to the trade statistics released by Taiwan customs.

Iron ore imports have witnessed a downfall of 29% M-o-M as it was 2.17 MnT in Aug’16. On similar lines, Taiwan iron ore imports decreased by 11% Y-o-Y.

During the first nine months of 2016, the country imported 16.69 MnT iron ore, up by 4.5% Y-o-Y as it was 15.96 MnT in the same period prior this year.

The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) import in Sept’16 was registered at 1.44 MnT, down by 28% M-o-M and 16% Y-o-Y. However, the agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) import was registered at 0.09 MnT, significantly down by 50% M-o-M and increases by 100% on Y-o-Y.

  1. Australia, the largest exporter of iron ore accounted for around 70% iron ore exports to Taiwan. In Sept’16, the country exported 1.13 MnT, down by 27% M-o-M and 29% Y-o-Y.
  2. Brazil, the second-largest iron ore exporter to Taiwan, exported 0.40 MnT iron ore in Sept’16, down by 25% M-o-M. The nation imported 0.12 MnT iron ore in Sept’15.
