Taiwan’s monthly coal imports Fall by 7% in Sep’16. While, yearly imports also recorded a decline of 5% as compared to Sep’15.
Taiwan, the world’s fifth largest coal importer, has imported 5 MnT, coal in Sep’16. The country’s imports fall by 7% on monthly basis. While, yearly imports fell by 5% which was at 5.4 MnT in Sep’15. As per to Taiwan customs data.
Out of the total imports, the country receives more than 95% bituminous coal from the different origins and rest quantity comprises Anthracite, Coke, Pet coke and other grades.
In the month of Sep’16, out of the total imports, the country has received 4.8 MnT Bituminous coal, 0.02 Anthracite and about 0.22 MnT other grades.

Quantity in MnT
In the first nine months of 2016 (Jan’16-Sep’16), the coal imports is down by 6% to 48.5 MnT, compared with the same period in 2015.
Major exporting countries in Sep’16
Australia, the largest supplier to Taiwan, shipped about 2.6 MnT coal in Sep’16 with a significant fall of 12% compared with Aug’16 and down by 19% Y-o-Y.
Moreover, Australia caters more than 45% share of the total yearly coal imports of Taiwan. Again recorded as top supplier and shipped about 24.2 MnT coal over Jan’16-Sep’16.
Indonesia, the second-largest coal exporter to Taiwan, exported 1.4 MnT coal in Sep’16 with a drop of 4% M-o-M. While yearly exports has noted a significant decline of 40% which was 2.4 MnT in Sep’15.
Russia, the third largest coal exporter to Taiwan, shipped around 0.6 MnT coal during the month, down by 20% M-o-M. Besides, recorded a growth of 7% Y-o-Y.
