South Korean Coal Imports Down by 16% in Oct’16

South Korea’s Oct’16 coal Imports recorded a downfall of 16% to 10.57 MnT. Besides yearly imports down by 7% during the month.

South Korea, world’s 4th largest coal importer, received around 12.5 MnT coal in Sep’16, according to the trade statistics released by South Korean Customs.

Country’s coal imports have fallen by 16% on monthly basis as it was 12.56 MnT in Sep’16. While, Yearly coal imports in Oct’16 have also drop by 7% when compared with Oct’15.

Out of the total imports, the country receives more than 85% bituminous coal from the different origins and rest quantity comprises Anthracite, Coke and Pet coke every month.

South Korea coal import in 2016
In the 1st ten month of the year, South Korea has imported about 110.5 MnT coal with a downfall of 3%, which was 114.2 MnT in the same consecutive period last year.

Australia, the largest exporter of coal to South Korea, supplied more than 40% coal every month. The county exported about 3.7 MnT to South Korea in Oct’16, down by 20% M-o-M and fallen by 32% Y-o-Y.

Indonesia, the second-largest coal exporter to South Korea, shipped about 2.8 MnT coal during Oct’16 with a decline by 19 % M-o-M. While, yearly exports has also noted a fall of 4.5% which was 2.9 MnT in Oct’15.

Russia, the third largest coal exporter to South Korea, exported around 1.8 MnT coal in Oct’16, noted a significant downfall of 39.5% M-o-M. In contrast, yearly export rose by 10.5%, compared to Oct’15.
