World crude steel
production for May 2012 stands at 130.6mn tonnes, up 0.7% YoYand 1.7% mom basis.
YTD production stood at 627.0mn tonnes, marginally down (0.4%) on yoy basis
from 629.8mn tonnes.
Production growth from
Other Europe (4.5%), North America (6.2%), Africa/ Middle East (3.4%), China
(2.5%) and Asia excluding China (1.7%) led to marginal positive growth on yoy
basis. EU, CIS, and South America have de-grown on yoy basis in range of -3.0%
to -10.0%. Oceania has reported negative growth of 25.9% on yoy basis.
All the regions have
reported growth in production on sequential basis in range of 1.0% to 9.0%
except South America (-3.4%) and Oceania (-14.0%).
China has produced
61.2mn tonnes for the month, up 2.5% and 1.1% yoy and mom basis respectively.
YTD production stood at 291.3mn tonnes, marginally below by 0.2% on yoy basis
from 292.01mn tonnes.
India has produced
6.2mn tonnes of crude steel, up 2.0% and 3.3% yoy and mom basis respectively.
World steel capacity
utilisation ratio for month stood at 79.6%, 140bps and 170bps lower on yoy amd
mom basis respectively
