In Q2 FY17, iron ore production in Odisha fell by 30% Q-o-Q to 17.32 MnT owing to monsoons.
Odisha iron ore production is experiencing significant increase this fiscal against the last one. Existing iron ore mines have considerably raised their production in FY17. So far in this fiscal (i.e. Apr-Sept’16) Odisha iron ore production has been recorded at 42 MnT compared to 31.8 MnT in the same period last fiscal. Thus an yearly increase of 32% can be noticed.
Comparing on monthly premises, Odisha iron ore production has registered increase of 27% M-o-M from 5.29 MnT in Aug’16 to 6.74 MnT in Sept’16.
Amongst merchant iron ore mines in Odisha Rungta Mines remains the largest producer at 9.39 MnT in H1 FY17 followed by Serajuddin Mines (4.53 MnT), KJS Ahluwalia (3.09 MnT) and Indrani Patnaik at 2.32 MnT. State owned unit – Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) produced 1.64 MnT iron ore.
Talking about captive mines, Tata Steel’s iron ore production was recorded at 5.52 MnT and that of SAIL stood at 3.29 MnT.

In H1 FY17, Odisha based merchant miners have produced 32.3 MnT iron ore however dispatches in the same time frame stood at 28.6 MnT (excluding movement for export).
