Baltic dry index slips on Capesize weakness despite support from smaller segments

The Baltic Dry Index declined by 1.12% (24 points) to 2,124 points on 2 Feb’26 against 30 Jan. The decline was driven by weaker Capesize performance, as softer iron ore demand and lower fixing activity on major long-haul routes offset modest gains in Panamax and Supramax segments.

  • Capesize: BCI dropped by 2.08% (73 points) to 3,434.
  • Panamax: BPI increased 0.29% (5 points) to 1,748.
  • Supramax: BSI rose by 0.47% (5 points) to 1,072.
