Iron Ore Sourcing of Standalone Pellet Plants Up by 42% in Q2 FY17

Standalone pellet plants iron ore sourcing increased by 42% Q-o-Q from 1.02 MnT in Q1 FY17 to 1.45 MnT in Q2 FY17.

BRPL’s iron ore sourcing up by 11% Q-o-Q – Odisha based pellet maker increased its iron ore sourcing by 11% Q-o-Q to 0.68 MnT in Q2 FY17. The pellet maker was majorly seen sourcing ore from Odisha merchant miners namely – KJS Ahluwalia, KN Ram and MESCO. The pellet maker raised its pellet export considerably from 0.27 MnT in Q1 FY17 to 0.52 MnT in Q2 FY17 over improved pellet demand from China and high export offers over high pellet premium.

Ardent Steels resume pellet production – Keonjhar based Ardent Steels having pellet capacity of 0.6 MnT pa resumed pellet production w.e.f 06 Oct’16. Hence the pellet maker resumed iron ore purchases last month and sourced 0.04 MnT iron ore from Odisha merchant miners (primarily Serajuddin Mines).

Barbil based pellet maker – Arya Iron & Steel increased its iron ore sourcing from 0.15 MnT in Q1 FY17 to 0.19 MnT in Q2 FY17. Th pellet maker dispatched 38 pellet rakes in Q2 FY17 compared to 35 rakes in Q1 FY17. The pellet maker was majorly seen sourcing ore from Odisha merchant miners namely – KN Ram, AMTC and MESCO.

MSPL sourced 0.25 MnT iron ore in Q2 FY17 – Southern India based pellet maker – MSPL has raised its iron ore sourcing by 32% Q-o-Q to 0.25 MnT in Q2 FY17. Majority of the ion ore sourced via Karnataka e-auctions was from Vyasankere mines.

KIOCL’s iron ore sourcing jumps five times in September – Export oriented unit – KIOCL procured 11 rakes of iron ore fines from NMDC (Chhattisgarh). In Sept’16 it doubled its sourcing from NMDC (Chhattisgarh) to 22 rakes. Additionally the pellet maker sourced 0.14 MnT through imports from Brazil and Iran. In Sept’16, the company exported 0.07 MnT pellets in Q2 FY17 against 0.06 MnT in Q1 FY17.

Iron ore sourcing of NMDC’s pellet plant in Karnataka remained nil in Q2 FY17.
