- OMC cuts base prices by 1% m-o-m for chrome ore auction
- Higher imported manganese ore costs support alloys prices
Indian ferro alloys prices remain stable or climbed higher during the week ended 17 January 2026. Higher raw material costs, especially of manganese ore, and tight supply were the primary drivers.
Ferro chrome prices edge up w-o-w, further upside likely
Domestic high-carbon ferro chrome (60%, Si: 4%) prices increased by INR 900/t ($10/t) w-o-w to INR 106,500/t ($1,174/t) exw-Jajpur, supported by firmer offers amid tight availability of material for immediate dispatch.
The market is also waiting for the results of the chrome ore auction scheduled for 19 January 2026, with 108,400 t on offer. Base prices of most grades were reduced by 1% (INR 223-286/t) m-o-m, while below 40% grades saw a 4% (INR 434/t) increase.
Imported manganese ore prices rise
Imported manganese ore prices climbed up w-o-w. Mn44% Gabon prices increased to $5.16/dmtu, Mn46% Australia to $5.52/dmtu, and Mn37% South Africa to $4.48/dmtu w-o-w. The gains were driven by geopolitical tensions, low port stocks, and reduced mining output, particularly in South Africa.
Additionally, South32 raised February 2026 offers for Mn37% to $4.4/dmtu, while Jupiter announced its offer price for high-grade (Mn 36.5%) semi-carbonate lumps at $4.32/dmtu CIF China, up by $0.17/dmtu.
Silico manganese prices inch up
Indian silico manganese (60-14) prices rose marginally by INR 200/t ($2/t) w-o-w to INR 70,700-71,700/t ($779-790/t) across the key regions of Durgapur, Raipur, Raigarh, and Vizag. Higher imported ore costs and smelters being largely booked until mid-March kept the market balanced, despite fluctuations in steel prices.
HC 65-16 silico manganese prices remained stable at $908/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.
Ferro manganese prices inch up on healthy export demand
Domestic HC ferro manganese (70%) prices inched up by INR 100/t ($1/t) w-o-w to INR 71,900/t ($792/t) in Raipur and Durgapur. Prices were supported by healthy export demand and higher manganese ore offers.
Export prices for 75 grade increased by $2/t w-o-w to $897/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.
Ferro silicon prices steady
Indian ferro silicon (Si 70%) prices remained unchanged w-o-w at INR 94,000/t ($1,036/t) exw-Guwahati. Bhutan prices also stayed stable at INR 93,900/t ($1,035/t) exw, with regular trades supporting market sentiment.
Noble alloys prices climb higher
Indian ferro vanadium (FeV 50%) prices rose by INR 15,350/t ($169/t) w-o-w to INR 1,168,750/t ($12,880/t) ex-Raipur, supported by tight supply, higher input costs, and steady demand from special steel producers.
Indian ferro titanium (Ti: 70%, 10-50 mm) prices also increased by INR 7,000/t ($77/t) w-o-w to INR 289,500/t ($3,190/t) exw-India, tracking an uptrend in global prices amid stable domestic fundamentals.
IEX spot prices ease
Electricity prices on IEX averaged INR 4.08/unit during 11-17 January 2026, down from INR 4.39/unit in the previous week.
