South Africa: Shipments from Port Saldanha rise, Richards Bay fall m-o-m in Dec’25

  • Richards Bay’s shipments decreased by 14.06% m-o-m to 7.21 mnt in Dec’25 from 8.39 mnt in Nov, due to seasonal maintenance of loading equipment and slower port operations during the holiday period.
  • However, Saldanha Bay’s shipments surged by 12.53% m-o-m to 5.39 mnt in Dec’25 against 4.79 mnt in Nov, driven by higher demand from steel mills and improved rail logistics, which allowed more iron ore to be transported efficiently to the port.
