Japan Steel, South African suppliers agree to keep Jan-Mar’26 ferro chrome prices unchanged

Japan Metal Daily: In the price negotiations for ferro chrome, a stainless steel raw material, Japan Steel agreed with several ferro chrome manufacturers in South Africa to keep the January-March loading price unchanged from the previous period. The agreement was made on high-carbon ferro chrome. The net price is $1.63 (arrival price), and it seems that it will continue to remain high. It seems that other stainless steel manufacturers will follow suit.

Demand for ferro chrome for stainless steel continues to be sluggish in the European market and other markets. On the other hand, on the supply side, the deterioration in profitability due to increased costs such as soaring electricity prices was becoming serious. In this negotiation, the supplier insisted on keeping it unchanged. Japan Steel accepted this because it prioritised stable procurement.
