- Company to raise capacity to 2.4 mnt/year from 1.2 mnt
- New structure mill to produce India’s largest flange sections
Private Indian steelmaker Jindal Steel has announced a major expansion of its structural steel manufacturing capacity at its Raigarh facility, doubling output from 1.2 million tonnes per annum (mnt/year) to 2.4 mnt by mid-2028. This expansion will significantly strengthen the country’s domestic availability of heavy and ultra-heavy structural steel, reinforcing the company’s leadership in the segment.
As part of the expansion, the company will commission a new, dedicated structural steel mill supported by advanced upstream and downstream technology upgrades. This will enable the production of larger and more complex parallel flange sections, catering to next-generation infrastructure, energy, refinery, transmission, and high-rise construction projects.
The enhanced facility will manufacture the country’s largest parallel flange sections, with depths up to 1,100 mm and weights reaching 1,500 kg per metre, compared to the current range of 100-900 mm and 333 kg per metre.
The expansion will significantly reduce dependence on imported heavy structural steel and improve project execution efficiency across key sectors. The company’s long-term commitment is to build domestic capabilities and support India’s infrastructure growth with high-strength, sustainable steel solutions.
