The world’s largest export terminal, Western Australia’s Port Hedland exported 41.8 MnT iron ore in Sept’16.
The volume of exports decreased by 2.3% M-o-M from Port Hedland as compared to 42.8 MnT in Aug’16. On similar lines, exports rose by 6% in Sept’16 as it was 39.4 MnT in the same consecutive month last year.
In first nine months of 2016, iron ore exports from Port Hedland was recorded at 352 MnT, up by 3% as compared to 334.3 MnT in the same period last year.
China, the largest destination of iron ore shipped from Port Hedland, received 35.5 MnT iron ore in Sept’16, record highest monthly imports from Port Hedland.
Chinese iron ore imports from Port Hedland increased by 9.2% M-o-M and 5% Y-o-Y.
Port Hedland has delivered a total throughput of around 446 MnT iron ore in 2015 and 414 MnT in 2014. BHP Billiton and FMG (Fortescue Metals Group) exports iron ore mainly from Australia’s Port Hedland, while Rio Tinto ships through Port Dampier.
