Indian steel ministry might hike import duty on manganese ore to discourage imports which is a major threat to state mining company MOIL (Manganese Ore India Ltd).
“I have told the secretary (steel) to work out a policy. Despite MOIL supplying almost 41% of the manganese ore requirement of the country, the imports have gone up significantly and that needs to be stopped,†Beni Prasad Verma, steel minister reported on Tuesday.
