Indian DRI, billet and re-bar update – 24 Dec

  • Sponge iron prices rise by INR 200/t d-o-d
  • Sellers receive steady inquiries throughout the day

India’s induction furnace (IF) steel prices showed mixed trends on 24 December 2025. Sellers increased offers after receiving steady bookings throughout the past week.

Sponge iron prices rose by INR 200/tonne (t) d-o-d, with the sharpest increase of INR 200/t recorded in the Raigarh market, taking prices to INR 22,900/t. However, prices declined by INR 100/t in Bellary to INR 24,300/t.

Billet prices fluctuated within the range of INR 100-200/t d-o-d across locations. The highest increase of INR 200/t was seen in Raigarh, where prices rose to INR 37,500/t. In contrast, billet prices in Jalna fell by INR 200/t to INR 40,100/t.

Rebar (Fe 500) prices edged up by INR 100-300/t d-o-d. The steepest rise was observed in Bengaluru, where prices increased by INR 300/tonne to INR 44,800/t.

The market saw volatility in semi-finished and finished long steel prices amidst moderate buying except in the central and eastern regions, where demand for semis and finished steel products remained active and sufficient trades were reported by suppliers.
