Indian imports of manganese ore fall by 23% in Sep’16 as offers rise in global market
Indian manganese ore imports stood at 84,868 MT in Sep’16 which fell by 23% M-o-M. In Aug’16 manganese ore import stood at 110,447 MT. Falling imports is a result of rising manganese ore prices in seaborne market. Notably it has increased by 50 % in last few months.
The maximum imports were from South Africa (52,308 MT) in Sep’16 followed by Australia (31,046 MT).
In FY17 (April-Sep’16) total imports have been recorded at 864,661 MT (0.86 MnT). In FY16 India imported around 2.2 MnT manganese ore.

Indian Mn Ore Prices Rise Sharply
Indian manganese ore prices have been increasing on the backdrop of rising manganese ore prices in the seaborne market and falling imports. It is to be noted that manganese ore prices in global market has been shooting up recently due to rising demand from China.
Recently MOIL (Manganese Ore India Ltd), India’s largest manganese ore miner, has increased its prices by 20-25% for third quarter (Oct-Dec 2016).
