Weekly round-up: Ferro alloys prices reflect mixed trends, trades remain limited

Ferro silicon prices fall post low-priced bulk bookings

Indian ferro silicon (Si 70%) prices declined by INR 1,400/t ($15/t) w-o-w to INR 97,600/t ($1,078/t) exw-Guwahati. Bhutan’s prices also fell slightly by INR 400/t ($4/t) to INR 98,600/t ($1,089/t).The market stabilised following Bhutan’s December price announcement, while prices eased as a few bulk orders were concluded at lower levels.

Additionally, HBIS Group set December ferro silicon bids at RMB 5,660/t  ($802/t), down RMB 20/t ($3/t) m-o-m from November, with prices inclusive of taxes and freight to its facilities.

Muted demand weighs on ferro chrome prices

Indian high-carbon ferro chrome (HC 60%, Si: 4%) prices dropped by INR 900/t ($10/t) to INR 109,100/t ($1,205/t) exw-Jajpur. The market remained quiet, as sellers held firm offers and buyers stayed cautious amid ample supply.

Additionally, around 2,000 t were booked at Vedanta-FACOR’s ferro chrome auction on 10 December. The larger lot (Cr 57% min, 10–150 mm) achieved an H1 price of INR 107,500/t exw, in line with the base price, while the smaller lot settled at INR 108,800/t, up INR 800/t from the base price.

Silico manganese stable amid market caution 

Indian silico manganese (60-14) prices edged up by around INR 100/t ($1/t) w-o-w to INR 69,300–69,900/t ($765–772/t) across Durgapur, Raipur, and Vizag. However, market activity remained subdued as mills cut production ahead of year-end maintenance shutdowns, leading to lower raw material offtake.

Ferro manganese prices remain flat w-o-w

Indian ferro manganese (HC 70%) prices remained static w-o-w at INR 72,000/t ($796/t) in both Durgapur and Raipur. Prices remained unchanged as muted demand, cautious buying, and resistance to higher offers from consumers prevented sellers from pushing prices higher despite stable production levels.

Additionally, HC 75% ferro manganese prices dipped by $2/t w-o-w to $890/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.

Imported manganese ore prices rise w-o-w

Prices of higher grades of imported manganese ore (Mn 37-46%) increased w-o-w. Mn44% from Gabon stood at $4.90/dry metric tonne unit (dmtu) w-o-w up by $0.22/dmtu, Mn46% from Australia was at $5.24/dmtu CIF India, up by $0.23/dmtu and Mn37% from South Africa was assessed at $4.29/dmtu up by $0.04/dmtu w-o-w.

Additionally, Eramet Comilog raised January 2025 manganese ore prices by $0.20/dmtu on stronger Chinese demand, tighter supply and higher costs, while Jupiter Mines increased its January 2026 offer by $0.05/dmtu. South32 has kept its Jan’26 manganese ore offers unchanged m-o-m, with prices of South African Mn37% material at $4.15/dmtu.

Ferro molybdenum prices rise despite soft demand

Indian ferro molybdenum prices went up by INR 66,000/t ($730/t) w-o-w to INR 2,650,000/t ($29,307/t) exw. Despite soft demand from the stainless steel sector keeping buyers cautious, prices inched higher, even as trading activity remained limited and overall market momentum subdued.
On the London Metal Exchange (LME), molybdenum futures edged down by $0.29/lb w-o-w to $21.17/lb.

Ferro vanadium prices stable amid market activity

Ferro vanadium (FeV 50%) prices slipped slightly by INR 1,000/t ($11/t) week-on-week, settling at INR 1,130,000/t ($12,559/t) ex-Raipur on 9 December, amid subdued market activity. Domestic buyers remained cautious, while soft demand from China further tempered price movement. With limited fresh inquiries and lukewarm downstream interest, the market is likely to follow a steady-to-cautious trend in the near term.

Ferro titanium prices drop INR 4,000/t w-o-w

Indian ferro titanium (Ti 70%, 10-50 mm) prices dipped marginally by INR 4,000/t ($44/t) week-on-week, settling at INR 284,000/t ($3,145/t) ex-works on 11 December. Market activity remained subdued, with limited inquiries, as the slow recovery in the end-user sector kept overall sentiment muted.

IEX spot prices drop w-o-w

Electricity prices on the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) stood at INR 3.52/unit during 6 December to 13 December, down from INR 4/unit in the previous week.
