Brazilian Iron Ore Export Up by 2% in Sept’16

Recent trade statistics released by Brazil Customs show that Brazil has exported around 35.3 MnT iron ore in Sept’16. Iron ore exports increased by 2.3 % in Sept’16 against 34.5 MnT in Aug’16.

Brazilian iron ore export volumes were slightly down by 0.28% Y-o-Y. In the first nine months of 2016, the country exported 277.2 MnT iron ore, up by 4.5% as it was 265.1 MnT during the same period in 2015.

The average export price for Brazilian iron ore in Sept’16 was around USD 40.2/MT, FoB Brazil, up by USD 3.8/MT from Aug’16 as it was USD 36.4/MT, FoB Brazil. However, on Y-o-Y basis, average export prices rose by USD 4.7/MT against USD 35.5/MT, FoB Brazil in Sept’15.

According to data released by Inchcape Shipping Services, Brazil, – the country exported 32.46 MnT iron ore via sea route. Vale, the world’s largest iron ore producer exported 64% of iron ore via sea route. In Sep’16, the miners exported, via sea route, 27.02 MnT iron ore, CSN – 3.03 MnT, Anglo American – 1.55 MnT and Trafigura – 0.86 MnT.

China, the largest iron ore importer of Brazilian  iron ore imported 66% of total Brazilian exports, Japan contributed 8.3%, Malaysia contributed 5% via sea route.
