- Third consecutive week of price rollover
- Global scrap prices stable, China rebar sentiment weak
Mysteel Global: Feng Hsin Steel, Taiwan’s largest rebar producer headquartered in Taichung in central Taiwan, has decided to hold its rebar list prices and local scrap procurement prices for transactions during 8-12 December , a company official confirmed.
This marks the third consecutive week that the company has held its rebar list prices and local scrap buying prices steady, Mysteel Global noted.
For business discussions valid until this Friday, Feng Hsin is maintaining its 13mm-diameter rebar at TWD 16,400/tonne (t) ($526/t) exw, and its buying price for local HMS 80:20 scrap also stays unchanged at TWD 8,200/t ($263/t), according to the official.
Mini-mills in Taiwan are in no hurry to adjust their rebar list prices and procurement prices of local scrap after noting the stable prices of global scrap delivered to Taiwan.
As of December 8, the price for US-sourced HMS 80:20 scrap was $300/t CFR Taiwan, holding flat since late September, while the price for Japanese H2 scrap was steady at $315/t CFR Taiwan, unchanged from a week earlier, a local market source said.
Rebar spot prices in the Chinese mainland retreated recently, as prices in the futures market lost ground amid the cooling market sentiment. Meanwhile, transactions involving construction steel in the physical market remain dull during the off season in winter so rebar prices enjoy little support from the market, Mysteel Global noted.
As of 8 December, China’s national price of HRB400E 20mm rebar – an indicator of domestic steel-market sentiment was assessed by Mysteel at RMB 3,307/t ($468/t) including 13% VAT, down by RMB 13/t ($2/t) from one week before.
On Monday, the most-traded rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange for delivery in May 2026 closed the daytime trading session at RMB 3,123/t ($442/t), lower by RMB 21/t ($3/t) from the contract’s settlement price on 1 December, according to the exchange’s data.
