India: Odisha invites bids for 12 mineral blocks

  • Out of 12 mines put under the hammer, 4 are iron ore
  • Last date of purchase tender documents is 27 Jan’26

The much-awaited mineral blocks in Odisha have finally been listed. As reported by BigMint earlier, the list of 12 includes four iron ore blocks, two bauxite blocks along with limestone and manganese blocks.

The last date for purchase of the tender document is Tuesday, 27 January 2026. Bids are expected on or before 17:00 hours, Tuesday, 3 February 2026. The tender document fees for the iron ore, manganese and bauxite blocks are INR 5 lakh, while tender documents of the limestone blocks will cost INR 2 lakh each.

Iron Ore  

The Thakurani-A1 Iron Ore Block in Barbil/Bileipada, located alongside of the State Highway, NH-520 has been explored up to G3 level and is recommended as a mining lease. It has an estimated net inferred resource of 50.532 million tonnes, (23.30 million tonnes of lumps and 27.22 million tonnes of fines). Much of the 202.781 Ha is forest land.

The 0.844 sq km Rengalaberha North-East Extension and Nuagan West Iron Ore Block, in Bonai of Kendujhar, explored up to G2 level has 37.95 Million Tonnes of iron ore (at 45% Fe cut off with average Fe: 57.87%) of which 28.55 mt is of high-grade ore (at 55% Fe cut-off with average Fe 60.84%).  

The 209 ha Kedesala West Iron Ore and aluminous laterite block, Koira, Lahunipada,  Sundargarh, has 84.56 million tonnes of hematite iron ore (+ 45% Fe). The estimated net Aluminous laterite inferred resource is 1.23 MT (at 30 % Al2O3 cut off with an average grade of 37.32 % Al2O3, 7.81% SiO2 and 21.57% Fe content.)  

The 68.436 Ha, Jajang-A Iron and Manganese Block in Barbil has resources of 16.05 million tonne, including 6.31 mnt of high grade lump and fine.  

The 92.882 hectares, Alaghat West Block in Sundargarh district Odisha, has indicated resources of all grades are 133.40 million tonnes of an average grade of 59.04% Fe.  

Manganese

The 111.783 Ha, Patamunda-A Manganese block in Koira, Sundargarh, has a net indicated resources of 6.66 million tonnes of manganese ore (with average grade of 11.91% Mn) and net iron ore resources of 0.31 million tonnes (with average grade of 46.47% Fe.)

The 47.66 Ha Kutinga Manganese Block, in Laxmipur, Koraput, (has G2 level) manganese reserves of 2.55 million tonnes at 10% Mn cut off (with an average of 20.67% Mn). Much of the concession land is ‘forest’ land.

Bauxite  

In Jeypore taluka of Koraput, the Tarhapani (west) bauxite deposit spread over 235.41 ha of plateau area has 8.606 million tonnes of bauxite (at 36.91 % of avg. Al2O3 and 3.92% avg. SiO2.) Of this 1.099 million tonnes is of metallurgical grade (at 43.31% of avg. Al2O3 and 2.71% avg. SiO2) according the exploration conducted by state agencies.  

The Karnapodikonda Bauxite Block, in Koraput district again consist of 532.747 hectares with G2 level indicated Mineral Resources of 4.509 million tonnes (of which 24.003 million tonnes of metallurgical grade bauxite). All of the land is government owned, but notified as forest.  

Limestone

The 30.256 ha Garramura Limestone Block in Khariar,  Nuapada district as Indicated resource (upto 40m depth) of 2.98 MT Cement Grade limestone although its geological resource is estimated at 3.88 mt up to the depth of drilling.  

The Telipadar-Lukapada – Pipalmunda Limestone block in Balangir district is of a 144.276 Ha are of which (36.903 Ha is mineralised) and has been explored up to G2 level. The deposit which includes some forest and private lands, holds and indicated geological resource of 8.5504 million tonnes of all grades of limestone (CaO 47.430%, MgO – 0.561%, SiO2 11.007%).  

The Tummura Limestone & Dolomite block, is a 25.278 Ha deposit explored up G-2 level by ex -lessee. It has an indicated resources of 4.042 million tonnes limestone and 7.437 million tonnes dolomite. Considering the industrial specification prescribed by IBM, the limestone of the block confirms to cement grade while dolomite is of Beneficiable grade.
