- Easing inventory pressure supports price hikes
- Sellers feel optimistic after securing advance orders
India’s induction furnace (IF) market recorded positive price movements across most regions on 1 December 2025, driven by an improvement in trading activity.
Price movements
Sponge iron prices fluctuated by INR 100-350/t d-o-d across regions. Only Raigarh, Hyderabad, and Bellary recorded declines by INR 100/t.
Billet offers rose by INR 150-700/t d-o-d across regions, with the highest rise of INR 700/t recorded in Ahmedabad.
Rebar (Fe 500) prices increased by INR 200-400/t d-o-d, with the sharpest hike of INR 400/t registered Durgapur. However, prices slight down by INR 200/t in Hyderabad region.
Market update
Sellers raised their offers today, primarily driven by two factors: First, sellers received active bookings at a consistent pace in the previous week, including advance orders across all commodities for the near term. Secondly, inventory pressure eased across commodities, as trading activity strengthened.
Improved procurement today, even at higher prices, helped support suppliers’ higher offers.
Considering the current supply-demand dynamics, prices are likely to remain supported in the near term.
The conversion spread from sponge iron (PDRI) to billets for standalone induction furnaces in the Raipur cluster was assessed at INR 12,600/t.
