Monthly coal imports in Turkey recorded a marginal downfall by 1% in Jul’16. Besides, yearly imports noted a sharp rise by 40% as compared to Jul’15.
Turkey, one of the largest coal importers in the world, has imported 3.7 MnT, coal in Jul’16, recorded the third highest imported quantity of the year (Since Jan’16). The country’s import fell by 1% on monthly basis. In contrast, yearly imports rose by 40% which was at 2.7 MnT in Jul’15. As per to Turkey customs data.
Out of the total imports, the country receives more than 70% bituminous coal from the different origins and rest quantity comprises Coking, Anthracite, Coke and Pet coke.

Quantity in MnT
In the first seven months of 2016 (Jan’16-Jul’16), the coal imports has increased by 11% to 23.3 MnT, compared with the same period in 2015.
Major exporting countries in Jul’16
Colombia, the largest supplier to Turkey, shipped about 1.7 MnT coal in Jul’16 with a remarkable rise by 12% compared with Jun’16 and rose by more than 100% on yearly basis.
Moreover, Colombia caters about 45-50% share of the total yearly coal imports of Turkey. Again recorded as top supplier and shipped about 8.6 MnT coal over Jan’16-Jul’16.
Russia, the second-largest coal exporter to Turkey, exported about 1 MnT coal in Jul’16 with a remarkable down by 23% M-o-M. While yearly exports has noted a growth of 9% which was 0.9 MnT in Jul’15.
USA, the third largest coal exporter to Turkey, shipped around 0.6 MnT coal in during the month, down by 6% M-o-M and recorded a growth of more than 100% Y-o-Y.
