India, the largest pellet exporter to China has exported 0.44 MnT pellets in the month of Aug’16. India is actively exporting high-grade pellets to China in order to fulfill its pellet appetite. In Jul’16, Canada who bagged the 1st position in terms of pellet exports has not exported even a single shipment in the month of Aug’16, according to recent released China’s customs data.
China, the world’s largest iron ore, and pellet importer have imported 1.09 MnT pellets in Aug’16, down by 12% as it was 1.24 MnT pellets in Jul’16. On similar lines, Chinese pellet imports in the month of Aug’16 dropped down by 28.2% Y-o-Y.
In the first eight months of 2016, the country imported 9.65 MnT pellets, down by 41% as it was 16.46 MnT in the same time period last year.
China mainly imports high-grade pellets from India, Australia, Ukraine, Brazil, Russia etc. However, since Nov’15, imports from Brazil have come to a halt due to disruption in Samarco’s operations which generally exports 10-11 MnT every year. In Aug’16, pellet exports from Brazil resumed and exported 0.09 MnT pellets to China.

- Australia the second largest pellet export to China has exported 0.17 MnT pellets in Aug’16 against 0.14 MnT in Jul’16. The nation exported 0.08 MnT pellets in Aug’15.
- Ukraine, the third largest pellet exporter to China has exported 0.13 MnT pellets in Aug’16 against 0.17 MnT in Jul’16. The nation exported 0.47 MnT pellets in Aug’15.
