Taiwan Iron Ore Import Up by 17% in Jul’16

Taiwan, the world’s sixth largest iron ore importer has imported 1.93 MnT iron ore in Jul’16, according to the trade statistics released by Taiwan customs.

Iron ore imports have witnessed a growth of 17% M-o-M as it was 1.65 MnT in Jun’16. On similar lines, Taiwan iron ore imports increased by 9.6% Y-o-Y.

During the first seven months of 2016, the country imported 12.9 MnT iron ore, slightly up by 0.7% Y-o-Y as it was 12.8 MnT in the same period prior this year.

The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) import in Jul’16 was registered at 1.52 MnT, up by 2.7% M-o-M. However, the agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) import was registered at 0.41 MnT, significantly up by 141% M-o-M.

  1. Australia, the largest exporter of iron ore accounted for around 68% iron ore exports to Taiwan. In Jul’16, the country exported 1.31 MnT, up by 4.8% M-o-M and down by 9.6% Y-o-Y.
  2. Brazil, the second-largest iron ore exporter to Taiwan, exported 0.62 MnT iron ore in Jul’16, up by 55% M-o-M. The nation imported 0.20 MnT iron ore in Jul’15.
