Nepal: Rebar prices rise $6/t m-o-m in Oct’25, though demand yet to pick up

  • Modest recovery seen post festive season

Nepal’s rebar prices increased by NPR 800/t ($6/t) m-o-m in October 2025, reaching NPR 72,500-74,500/t ($510-524/t) for cash guarantee sales and NPR 74,500-76,500/t ($524-538/t) for bank guarantee sales. The uptick was supported by a modest rebound in buying activity after the festive season, but overall, demand is yet to improve significantly.

Imported long steel, sponge iron offers

Offers for imported Indian wire rod coils (WRCs) via the EAF/IF route stood at $460-470/t exw-Durgapur, down by $13/t m-o-m amid softer market conditions.

India’s sponge iron export offers to Nepal declined by $14/t m-o-m to $317/t CPT Raxaul, weighed down by muted demand.

Nepal’s product-wise import volumes

Finished flat steel imports fell 40% m-o-m to 35,300 t in October from 58,800 t in September. On a yearly basis, imports were down 38% from 56,600 t recorded in October 2024.

Semi-finished steel imports stood at 8,900 t in October, down 14% from 10,400 t in the previous month. Compared to October 2024, volumes registered a marginal 1% decline from 9,000 t.

Finished long steel imports totalled 11,200 t in October, marking a sharp 40% decline from 18,600 t in September. On a y-o-y basis, volumes were slightly lower by 5% from the 11,800 t recorded in October 2024.

Outlook

Prices are expected to stay range-bound in the near term, supported by limited supply and mild post-festive buying. However, overall demand remains subdued.
