Sesa Goa planning to close its plants in Amona, Goa

Sesa Goa is planning to close its pig iron
and coke plants at Amona, Bicholim due to stoppage of iron ore supply for
the last one month.

Its spokesperson said that for the last one year, the supply
of iron ore from Karnataka had become scarce and very costly due to ban on ore
transportation from the neighbouring state and stocks getting sold in
e-auction.

“Our stock is getting exhausted”, said Sesa's
managing director P K Mukherjee quoting the closure is imminent. Now the
stoppage of transport inside Goa has finally brought the death nail on Sesa's
plant which are running since 1992 without stopping for a single day, the
spokesperson added.

As per south Goa collector's order, iron ore transport from
its Codli mine in the South has been stopped for last one month. Its expanded
facility is also bearing the brunt, sources said.
