Weekly round-up: Ferro alloys market sees mixed trends w-o-w; festive slowdown weighs on trades

Ferro silicon prices ease 

Indian ferro silicon (Si 70%) prices dipped by INR 1,200/t ($14/t) w-o-w to INR 87,500/t ($996/t) exw-Guwahati, while Bhutan prices also decreased by INR 900/t ($10/t) to INR 87,600/t ($997/t). Prices declined as bulk deals were finalized at lower levels amid subdued demand, sufficient supply, and limited market activity.

Ferro chrome prices remain flat 

Indian high-carbon ferro chrome (HC 60%, Si 4%) prices remained unchanged w-o-w at INR 120,400/t ($1,371/t) exw-Jajpur. Overall, the domestic market did not witness any major movement in the last week due to the festive holidays.

At OMCs chrome ore auction on 17 October, 83,100 t were sold out of the 86,400 t offered. Bids increased by 0.4-18% (INR 40-5,550/t) for most grades, while a few saw a decline of 8-10% (INR 1,894-2,764/t) m-o-m.

Silico manganese prices remain largely steady 

Indian silico manganese (60-14) prices remained largely steady with slight rise by INR 200/t ($2/t) w-o-w to INR 71,300-71,600/t ($812-815/t) in Durgapur, Raipur, and Vizag. Prices stayed steady as regular trades continued, steel demand remained weak, and no significant new market inquiries emerged.

Meanwhile, export prices of the 65-16 grade rose by $2/t w-o-w to $933/t FOB Vizag/Haldia, India.

Ferro manganese prices edge up 

Indian ferro manganese (HC 70%) prices rose slightly by INR 200/t ($2/t) w-o-w to INR 71,500/t ($814/t) exw-Durgapur. Meanwhile, exw-Raipur. Meanwhile, prices inched up by INR 200/t ($2/t) to INR 71,500/t ($814/t). Prices rose due to stable market conditions, steady demand, and limited supply supporting slight upward movement.

Additionally, HC 75% ferro manganese prices edged up by $1/t w-o-w to $913/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.

Imported manganese ore prices remain steady

Prices of imported manganese ore (Mn 37-46%) remained mostly steady w-o-w across grades. Mn44% from Gabon stood at $4.45/dry metric tonne unit (dmtu) w-o-w; Mn37% from South Africa was assessed at $4.22/dmtu, down by $0.02/dmtu and Mn46% from Australia was at $4.76/dmtu CIF India, Unaltered w-o-w.

Ferro molybdenum prices remain stable w-o-w

Indian ferro molybdenum prices dipped by INR 50,000/t ($570/t) w-o-w to INR 3,050,000/t ($34,756/t) exw. Ferro molybdenum prices remained largely stable w-o-w due to limited buyer acceptance of higher offers amid cautious market sentiment.

Ferro vanadium prices remain steady 

Ferro vanadium (FeV 50%) prices in India edged up by INR 1,000/t ($11/t) week-on-week to INR 1,151,000/t ($13,116/t) ex-Raipur, remaining largely stable amid subdued demand from the special steel sector. Trading activity was sluggish with limited inquiries, while vanadium pentoxide (V₂O₅) prices also stayed steady, reflecting overall market stagnancy.

IEX spot prices inch down w-o-w

Electricity prices on the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) stood at INR 2.43/unit during 19 October-25 October, edged down from INR 2.49/unit in the previous week.
