India’s Thermal Coal Traffic Up by 3% at 12 Major Ports

Government controlled 12 major ports coal traffic handling have increased by 3% to 43 MnT Y-o-Y during Apr-Aug’16.

In the first five months of the fiscal (FY17), India’s own controlled 12 major ports have registered a growth of 3% in thermal coal handling, compared with the same period of last fiscal. As per the latest data released by Indian Port Association (IPA).

However Coking coal handling at ports have raised by 3.7% to 20.8 MnT during the same period (Apr-Aug’16) Y-o-Y.

Paradip port at East Coast of India, handled the large quantity of thermal coal about 12.15 MnT, down by 4.6% compared to FY16. While total coal traffic at Kolkata port has declined by 18% to 6.1 MnT from 7.5 MnT of FY 16 till Aug.

Kandla port on West Coast of India received the largest volume of coal during the period. The coal received at Kandla port rose by 25% to 7.6 MnT. Chennai and JNPT  port did not receive any coal vessel during Apr-Aug’16.
