Alang Reports 8 Ship Breaking Demolition Fortnightly in Sep’16

Alang, one of the largest ship breaking yards in the world and a major source of scrap in India, reported total 8 ships reached for breaching in last 15 days in the month of Sep’16.

Total 10 vessels, carrying 140,864 LDT are still waiting for breaching in this month and 2 vessel of 10,958 LDT is expected in near term.

Earlier in Aug’16, total 21 ships had arrived to Alang (Gujurat) for demolition compared to 15 ships in Jui’16.

Positive sentiments are currently prevailing in domestic market, which in turn has supported ship breaking market also. Prices in a week surged by INR 500-700/MT and hovering in the range of INR 16,300-19,500/MT.

However, imported scrap offers remained stable across the global market.

Global market price scenario

Global ship breaking market was on positive side in week 37 as prices across the world moved up by USD 5/lt Ldt for both general and tanker cargoes. Meantime, China reported a sharp rise of USD 30/ltldt in ship breaking prices, following local price hike.

Ship breaking prices in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan are assessed at USD 275/lt Ldt, USD 285/lt Ldt and USD 280/lt Ldt respectively for general cargo.
