NTPC Gets Environment Ministry Nod to Transport Imported Coal to Farakka Plant

It seems that NTPC Limited will continue to use imported Thermal Coal, at least upto Jan’17.

Heeding positively to the request of NTPC, a panel in the Environment Ministry has recently granted permission to the power major to continue transporting coal via national waterways to its Farakka Thermal Power Plant in West Bengal for another six months, upto Jan’17.

The panel has allowed transportation of the maximum quantity 1.5 MTPA of coal during the period.

NTPC was granted permission to transport a maximum of 1.5 MTPA of coal to the power plant in July’14; and the permission was later extended by another year until Jun’16, with a condition for the power major to submit a detailed study report to the ministry.

NTPC is expected to submit the detailed study report within the extension period.
