Iron ore sourcing from NMDC (Chhattisgarh) increases by 33% M-o-M in Aug’16.
Essar Steel – an integrated steelmaker with steel making capacity of 10 MnT pa has increased its iron ore sourcing by 9% M-o-M from 0.88 MnT in Jul’16 to 0.96 MnT in Aug’16.
Last month, no iron ore import shipment by the steel maker was seen. Thus, the entire iron ore sourced was from domestic sources i.e. NMDC (C.G.) and Odisha merchant miners.
Sourcing from NMDC increased by 33% in Aug’16 – Essar Steel procured 0.53 MnT iron ore from NMDC (Chhattisgarh) in the month of Aug’16. The figure is higher by 33% against its Jul’16 iron ore sourcing which was at 0.40 MnT.
Odisha iron ore sourcing up by 8% M-o-M – The steel giant raised its iron ore sourcing from Odisha to 0.43 MnT in Aug’16 from 0.40 MnT in Jul’16. Essar Steel procured 0.13 MnT iron ore from Serajuddin Mines in Aug’16 which was nil in the month of Jul’16. The decline of 43% M-o-M in iron ore sourcing from Indrani Patnaik mines was noticed in Aug’16.
Essar Steel has sourced 4.43 MnT iron ore so far in this fiscal (till Aug’16), . Out of this, share of NMDC (C.G.) is 58%, Odisha miners is 33% and the remaining 9% attributes to imports.

Essar Steel’s pellet exports fall in Aug’16 – Essar steel exported 0.17 MnT pellets in Jul’16 which fell to 0.1 MnT in Aug’16. The steel maker has exported 0.32 MnT pellets to China and Japan in this fiscal (till Aug’16).
Also pellet coastal movement of the steel maker from its Paradip and Vizag pellet plants noticed a fall of 30% M-o-M. The steel maker moved 0.58 MnT pellets via coastal movement to its Hazira steel plant in Aug’16 compared to 0.83 MnT in Jul’16.
