As reported earlier, Brazil exported 34.5 MnT iron ore in Aug’16. Iron ore exports increased by 14.2% in Aug’16 against 30.2 MnT in the month of Jul’16. On Y-o-Y basis, exports moved up by 27.3%. Despite Samarco’s disruption, Brazilian iron ore export grew in the month of Aug’16.
Top 3 importers of Brazilian iron ore:
- Brazil, being the world’s second-largest iron ore exporter, exports majority of the iron ore to China. Export share to China remained at 67% of total Brazilian exports. Iron ore exports to China grew by 52.81% Y-o-Y in Aug’16. Shipment volumes came to 20.34 MnT, against 13.31 MnT a year before.
- Japan, the second-largest iron ore importer of Brazilian ore imported around 2.92 MnT in Aug’16 which was 1.9 MnT in Jul’16. The nation imported around 2.04 MnT iron ore in Aug’15.
- Malaysia, the third largest iron ore importer, imported around 1.85 MnT in Aug’16, down by 14% against 2.15 MnT in the month of Jul’16. The nation imported 1.75 MnT in Aug’15.
