Colombia’s coal export have fallen by 6% in Jun’16. While yearly exports recorded a growth of 19% compared to Jun’15.
Colombia, world’s 6th largest coal exporter, shipped around 7.47 MnT coal in Jun’16, according to the trade statistics released by Colombian Customs.
Country’s coal exports have seen a downfall of 6% on monthly basis as it was 7.96 MnT in May’16. On the contrary, Yearly coal export has increased significantly by 19% when compared with Jun’15.
Grade-wise coal export in Jun’16
Out of the total exports, the country shipped about 90% steam coal to the different destinations and rest quantity comprises Coking, Coke and Pet coke every month.

Quantity in MnT
As per SteelMint analysis, since the beginning of FY17, Colombian coal had been reflecting as a biggest substitute for South African RB1 coal in India. India had increased its monthly shipments from Colombia on the wake of lower CNF offers. Where South African grade were offered at higher priced.
India had imported 98% more coal in May’16 to 0.7 MnT compared to Apr’16, now which has decline to nil in Jun’16.
Colombian 6000 NAR thermal coal has been traded in India as suitable for Indian power and cement production. Currently, it is being offered at USD 58-59/MT FoB for Sep’16 loadings.
Colombian coal export in 2016
In the 1st six month of the year, Colombia has exported about 38.6 MnT coal with a marginal growth of 3%, which was 37.5 MnT in the same consecutive period last year.
Country-wise coal export in Jun’16
Turkey, imported the largest coal quantity during the month, followed by Netherland, Spain and USA and as the 2nd, 3rd and 4th largest importers in Jun’16.
Turkey is one of the largest buyers of Colombian coal took about 1.4 MnT coal in Jun’16; down by 11% compared to last month. On the contrary, yearly imports recorded a significant growth of 85%, which was at 0.73 MnT in Jun’15.

Netherland, the second-largest coal importer during the month, imported about 1.02 MnT coal in Jun’16, with a down fall of 17%, compared to 1.2 MnT in May’16. The nation’s yearly import also recorded a decline by 18%, which was 1.2 MnT in Jun’15.
Spain, the third-largest importer of Colombian coal took about 0.7 MnT coal in Jun’16, recorded a sharp growth in monthly coal imports as up by more than 100% compared to May’16. While, import also moved up by 34% on yearly basis.
