Despite prevalence of tight supply in the key international markets, Petcoke imports continued to land at Indian ports. It may be noted that the import consignments pertain the earlier bookings. The material is not available for immediate shipment.
Interestingly, Petcoke imports into India during Aug’16 were recorded around 94% higher at 1.87 MnT that the imports in Aug’15 at 0.96 MnT. Imports in Aug’16 also had overtaken the imports in July’16, at 1.46 MnT.
The surge in imports is a consequence of usage of the material as the main fuel by the cement producers in the country.
As in the normal trend, imports from USA constituted the highest share in the imports during the month under review, followed by that from Saudi Arabia.
