India: Chrome ore dispatches increase 9% m-o-m in Aug’25

  • IMFA leads dispatches with 39% m-o-m increase
  • IMFA emerges as top buyer, Jindal Stainless comes second

India’s chrome ore dispatches rose 9% m-o-m to 211,737 t in August 2025 compared to 193,370 t in July. This was likely due to a m-o-m rise in ferro chrome prices by around INR 4,000/t ($45/t) to INR 103,575/t ($1,167/t) exw-Jajpur in August, along with 1-2% rise in bids for the majority of the grades at OMC’s chrome ore auction.

IMFA recorded the sharpest growth, with dispatches up 39% m-o-m to 55,841 t in August. Tata Steel also saw a 37% rise to 24,944 t. Meanwhile, dispatches from FACOR and Jindal Stainless dropped by 46% and 23%, to 7,960 t and 3,082 t, respectively, in August.

Procurement trends

IMFA emerged as the top chrome ore buyer with 55,841 t, entirely sourced from its captive mines. Jindal Stainless ranked second with 45,162 t, of which 93% (42,080 t) sourcing from OMC and the remaining 7% (3,082 t) from its captive mines. Balasore Alloys followed in third place with 22,436 t, fully supplied from its own mines.
