In non-conformity with the general expectation arising on account of vigorous steel production, Coking coal imports into India in Aug’16 had actually fallen in comparison with that in Aug’15 as well as in July’16.
During Aug’16, Coking coal imports into the country totalled 3.71 MnT, which was lower by around 13.7% in comparison with that, at 4.3 MnT, in the corresponding month of the preceding fiscal.
Imports during the fifth month of FY17 also were lower by around 8% than the imports in the fourth month of the fiscal, at 4.04 MnT.
During the month under review, Australia accounted for the largest share in the imports, followed by Canada.
