India becomes the second largest pellet exporter to China which exported 0.31 MnT pellets to China, slightly behind Canada, which exported 0.32 MnT in the month of Jul’16, as per the recent data released by China Customs.
China, the world’s largest iron ore consumer, imported around 1.24 MnT pellets in Jul’16 and witnessed a growth of 29% M-o-M as it was 0.97 MnT in Jun’16. On the contrary, Chinese pellet imports decreased significantly by 18.4% Y-o-Y.
In the first seven months of 2016, the country imported 8.56 MnT pellets, down by 42% as it was 14.94 MnT in the same consecutive period last year.
China mainly imports high-grade pellets from India, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Ukraine etc. However, since Nov’15, imports from Brazil have come to a halt due to disruption in Samarco’s operations. Brazilian Samarco generally exports 10-11 MnT every year.
- Canada becomes the highest exporter of pellet to China, which was India last month. In Jul’16, the country exported 0.32 MnT pellets as compared to zero quantity exports in the month of Jun’16. The nation exported 0.23 MnT pellets in Jul’15.
- India, stood at 2nd position, exported around 0.31 MnT pellets in Jul’16, down by 4.2% as compared to Jun’16. Pellet exports to China gradually increased in 2016 as compared to last year owing to the increased demand. In Jul’15, the country exported very nominal quantity i.e. 0.07 MnT pellets.
- Ukraine turned out to be the 3rd largest exporter of pellets to China by replacing Australia. In Jul’16, the country exported 0.17 MnT pellets, up by 10.3% as it was 0.16 MnT in Jun’16. The nation exported 0.82 MnT pellets in Jun’15.
- Australia, the 4th largest pellet exporter to China has exported 0.14 MnT in Jul’16 against 0.18 MnT in Jun’16. The nation exported 0.20 MnT pellets in Jun’16.
- Chile, the 5th largest pellet exporter, exported 0.10 MnT pellets in Jul’16. Pellet exports in the month of Jun’16 remained nil. In Jul’16, the country exported 0.17 MnT pellets.
