Indian Imports of Ferrous Scrap Decreases during Aug’16

As per the recent data maintained by SteelMint, the ferrous scrap imports by India during the month of Aug’16 dropped (3%) over the previous month. It is the fifth consecutive month that the steel scrap imports have noticed a downfall.

The country’s total scrap imports during Aug’16 amounted to 318,000 MT. The imports were down sharply by 3% as compared to Jul’16, which were recorded at 328,500 MT. Indian Scrap Imports for a period of Jan-Aug’16 totaled 4,012,000 MT.

During Aug’16, UAE was the largest scrap exporter to India. The scrap imports from UAE totaled 52,940 MT, accounting for approx. 17% of the country’s total scrap imports.

The second largest exporter of scrap to India was the UK. The scrap imports by the country from the UK totaled 46,551 MT. USA stood at third place with supply volume of 42,614 tons.
