- Price pressure mounts on ferro silicon post Bhutan cuts
- Ferro molybdenum prices rise on moly oxide shortage
Indian ferro silicon prices witnessed mixed trends in a week marked by significant shifts in demand-supply fundamentals across various commodities. Global market signals also influenced market direction in India.
Ferro silicon prices drop post Bhutan’s Sep’25 price announcement
Indian ferro silicon prices dropped by INR 5,200/tonne (t) ($59/t) w-o-w to INR 86,000/t ($976/t) exw-Guwahati, while Bhutanese offers also fell by INR 6,500/t ($74/t) to match the same level. Bhutanese producers announced a sharp monthly reduction of INR 9,000/t ($102/t) for September 2025, which significantly influenced the overall market decline. The drop was further supported by limited buyer inquiries, higher imports, and easing Chinese silicon metal prices.
Ferro chrome prices rise amid tight supply
Indian high-carbon ferro chrome (HC 60%, Si: 4%) prices increased by INR 4,200/t ($48/t) w-o-w to INR 113,700/t ($1,291/t) exw-Jajpur. The price rise was driven by limited market participation, as most major sellers withheld offers, leading to tighter supply and upward pressure on prices.
Silico manganese dips amid subdued demand
Indian silico manganese prices (60-14) dipped by INR 450/t ($5/t) w-o-w to INR 69,200-69,600/t ($786-790/t) in the key regions of Durgapur, Raipur, and Vizag. Silico manganese prices stayed under pressure due to weak demand and rising inventories, but high input costs limited further decline.
Meanwhile, export prices of the 65-16 grade dipped by $8/t w-o-w to $923/t FOB Vizag/Haldia, India.
Ferro manganese prices remain largely stable w-o-w
Indian ferro manganese (HC 70%) prices dipped by INR 200/t ($2/t) w-o-w to INR 70,300/t ($798/t) exw in Durgapur. Meanwhile, prices, exw-Raipur, edged down by INR 100/t($1/t) to INR 70,600/t ($802/t) w-o-w. A slight decline was observed due to moderate demand weakness and increased supply from select regional producers in the Durgapur market.
Additionally, HC 75% ferro manganese prices dropped by $7/t w-o-w to $882/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.
Imported manganese ore prices edge up w-o-w
Prices of imported manganese ore (Mn 37-46%) inched up w-o-w across all grades. Mn44% from Gabon stood at $4.39/dry metric tonne unit (dmtu), up by $0.01/dmtu; Mn37% from South Africa was assessed at $4.15/dmtu, up by $0.01/dmtu, and Mn46% from Australia was at $4.70/dmtu CIF India, up by $0.02/dmtu w-o-w.
Ferro molybdenum edges up w-o-w
Indian ferro molybdenum prices inched up by INR 33,000/t ($375/t) w-o-w to INR 3,133,000/t ($35,568/t) exw. The price hike followed increased shortages of molybdenum oxide. Additionally, London Metal Exchange (LME) molybdenum futures rose $0.36/lb w-o-w to $25.6/lb on 2 September, compared to $25.24/lb.
Ferro vanadium prices climb up on supply constraints
India’s ferro vanadium (FeV 50%) prices surged by INR 16,500/t ($187/t) w-o-w to INR 1,126,500/t ($12,783/t) ex-Raipur. The sharp increase was driven by tightening domestic supply and a notable rise of RMB 400/t ($56/t) in Chinese prices. Limited availability, coupled with strong overseas sentiment, is likely to sustain upward momentum in the Indian market.
IEX spot prices drop w-o-w
Electricity prices on the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) stood at INR 2.77/unit during 31 August to 6 September, down from INR 3.62/unit in the previous week.
