Japan contributes 10-12% of the seaborne market. The trade statistics released by Customs Department of Japan indicate that the country has imported around 10.79 MnT of iron ore during Jul’16.
In Jul’16, the country imported 10.79 MnT iron ore, down by 4.3% as compared to Jun’16. However, on a Y-o-Y basis, imports increased slightly by 1.8% when compared with the imports during the same month a year ago.
In the first seven months of 2016, the country imported 75 MnT iron ore, slightly down by 0.2 MnT as compared to same period in 2015. The country imported 131 MnT iron ore from different countries in 2015.
Japan mainly imports majority of iron ore from Australia, followed by Brazil. Imports from Australia were registered at 7.3 MnT in Jul’16, accounting around 67% of the total imports during the month.
The other key exporters to Japan during Jul’16 were Brazil (2.71 MnT), South Africa (0.22 MnT), India (0.30 MnT), Chile (003 MnT), Canada (0.15 MnT) etc.
