Indian Chrome Ore Production decreased by 35% in Jul’16

Production of chrome ore and chrome concentrates decreased by 35% in Jul’16 in comparison to Jun’16.

Odisha contributes to around 98% of the total chrome ore produced in India. Chrome ore production in Odisha decreased by over 35% and stood at 238,001 MT in Jul’16. In Jun’16, chrome ore production was recorded at 366,836 MT.

Captive miners in Jul’16 have decreased production by over 58 % M-o-M, driven mainly by FACOR alloys which decreased production by over 82% and Balasore Alloys which decreased production by 72.6%. Production of chrome ore by merchant miners in Jul’16 decreased by 23% M-o-M. Tata Steel chrome ore production has decreased by 17.7% and O.M.C has also decreased production by 43.7% in Jul’16.

Production of Chrome Ore is vastly reduced during the rainy season.
