World iron ore trade increased rapidly in the first half of 2016 and 2015. Global trade in seaborne iron ore market was witnessed at 1,407 MnT in 2015. This increase appears to be around 5-6% Y-o-Y.
Seaborne iron ore trade increased by 12% to 1,356 MnT in 2014. The increase was almost entirely due to higher Chinese imports in the previous years.
World Top iron ore exporters in H1 2016
- Australia, been the primary exporter of iron ore since years exported around 415 MnT iron ore in H1 2016, increased by 12% from H1 2015.
- Brazilian iron ore exports have not grown rapidly , although they rose by 2.4% in H1 2016, to 207.3 MnT. Total exports from Brazil was registered at 366.7 MnT in 2015 .
- South Africa is now the third largest exporter, at 30.65 MnT in H1 2016. The country exported around 66.8 MnT iron ore to different nations in 2015.
World Top iron ore importers in H1 2016
- China, being the largest consumer of iron ore accounts for around 65% of world’s total imports . China imports increased by 9% in H1 2016 at 493.6 MnT. The country imported 953 MnT iron ore in 2015
- Japan, the second-largest iron ore importer of iron ore, imported around 64.2 MnT iron ore in H1 2016. The country imported 131 MnT iron ore in 2015.
- South Korea, the third-largest iron ore importer, imported around 34.2 MnT iron ore in H1 2016. The country imported 72.9 MnT iron ore from different nations in 2015.
