INDIA- OMML raises Manganese Ore Prices by 7-10%

OMML, Orissa Manganese and Minerals Ltd, a subsidiary of Adhunik Metaliks Ltd has raised its manganese ore prices in domestic market by 7-10% for the month of September 2013. OMML has an annual production of around 2 lakhs tonnes, contributing around 9% of India's total Manganese ore production.

Prices have been increased in line with falling Rupee against USD which has made imports expensive. Current prices are hovering at

25-26 Mn= Rs 5,750/MT (US$ 88)

28-30 Mn= Rs 7,250/MT (US$ 111)

32-34 Mn= Rs 8,500/MT (US$ 130)

36-38 Mn= Rs 10,000/MT (US$ 153)

38-40 Mn= Rs 11,000/MT (US $ 169)

40-42Mn= Rs 12,000/MT (US $ 184)

48-50 Mn= Rs 20,250/MT (US $ 311)

Prices on Ex-Mines Basis, Including Royalty

At present, MOIL is the largest producer of manganese ore in the country with a share of 51%. It produced 11.3 lakhs tonnes of manganese ore in FY 2012-2013.

It is seen that India is importing large quantities of high grade manganese ore to the tune of 23.27 lakhs tonnes per annum. This is mainly for the purpose of blending with low and medium grade of manganese ore available in India and also for conversion of the same to Ferro Alloys to cater to the European market
