NTPC’s Talcher Power Plant (TTPS) is running under fuel scarcity owing to supply shortage from Jagannath coal mine.
Odisha based TTPS (Talcher Thermal Power Plant), a coal fired power plant currently facing lack of fuel supply.
The plant have total 467 MW installed capacity which sourced about 6,000 MT coal (by conveyer belt) from Jagannath mine and about 3,500 MT (one rake) from other mines per day. The plant is largely dependent on Jagannath coal mine, now receiving about 3,000 MT (through conveyer belt) and hardly collects one rake in two days.
The mine has been drawing about 6,000 MT/day coal instead of 10,000 MT/day to run its six units in full load. Meanwhile, its coal stock level have also fallen to o.13 MnT which was maintained at a level of atleast 1 MnT. If this situation still persist, the condition may plunge into a critical state.
Jagannath coal mine is on the verge of shutting owing to land limitations. However, the mine got clearance from the Centre but Angul Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) is yet to hand over about 10 hectares of forest land. Several high-level meetings, chaired by the Chief Secretary and the Union Coal Secretary, have failed to help out the stressed coal mine.
Though, TTPS’s power generation has not been affected as supply shortage is currently managing through coal stock. But, it cannot manage the plant from the stock for a long time and will regulate power generation.
