Gloomy Atmosphere Persists in Indian Anthracite Coal Market, Import Offers Stable

Gloomy atmosphere continued to prevail in the Indian Anthracite coal market, with a bleak market outlook.

Import offers have remained stagnant in comparison with that assessed last week. The latest import offers were assessed stable at around USD 97/MT CFR India.

As a matter of fact, the current import offers are the highest during this year.

Availability of low cost substitute fuels, like Petcoke and other forms of coal, has eroded demand for Anthracite coal in the country.

IMPORTS

Import affinity among buyers in the country has been at the lowest. During the first week of Aug’16, no import consignment had landed at any Indian port.

During July’16, the meager quantity imported was at 100,600 MT, which was lower by around 37% over that of 160,400 MT in Jun’16, data available with SteelMint Research shows.
