Weekly round-up: All ferro alloys prices remain stable; only ferro silicon witnesses uptick

  • Ferro silicon surges on limited supply, higher silicon metal costs
  • Silico manganese prices remain steady in recent deals

Ferro silicon prices spike on tight supply

Indian ferro silicon prices rose by INR 7,100/t ($82/t) w-o-w to INR 92,800/t ($1,073/t) exw-Guwahati. Meanwhile, Bhutan offers increased by INR 5,700/t ($66/t) to INR 92,000/t ($1,064/t) exw. The recent price surge is driven by supply disruptions from power cuts at Meghalaya plants and a concurrent uptrend in imported silicon metal prices from China, tightening availability in the market.

Ferro chrome prices remain stable w-o-w

Indian high-carbon ferro chrome (HC 60%, Si: 4%) prices were largely stable with slight decline by INR 300 ($3/t) w-o-w at INR 99,300/t ($1,149/t) exw-Jajpur.  Prices held steady following the recent Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) chrome ore auction, in which no major variations were seen in bids.

Vedanta-FACOR’s ferro chrome auction concluded at INR 99,100–99,800/t ($1,146–1,154/t) exw for 10–150 mm material, with bids slightly down by INR 100–200/t($1-$2/t) from 2 July auction.

Silico manganese prices steady

Indian silico manganese prices (60-14) remained largely stable with slight down by INR 150/t ($2/t) w-o-w to INR 72,300-72,800/t ($836-842/t) in the key regions of Durgapur, Raipur, and Vizag. Domestic silico manganese prices slipped week-on-week, pressured by weak demand from steel mills and limited new inquiries. A large domestic deal at reduced rates further pushed prices down.

However, export prices of the 65-16 grade slide by $1/t w-o-w to $939/t FOB Vizag/Haldia, India.

Ferro manganese prices remain stable

Indian ferro manganese (HC 70%) prices remained steady with slight drop by INR 50/t ($1/t)w-o-w to INR 71,100/t ($822/t) exw in Durgapur. Meanwhile, prices, exw-Raipur, were unchanged to INR 71,100/t ($822/t) w-o-w. Ferro manganese prices stay stable amid balanced supply-demand, steady steel production, and consistent buying from manufacturers maintaining market equilibrium.

Additionally, HC 75% ferro manganese prices dropped by $8/t w-o-w to $900/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.

Imported manganese ore prices rise w-o-w

Prices of imported manganese ore (Mn 37-46%) increased w-o-w across all grades. Mn44% from Gabon stood at $4.38/dry metric tonne unit (dmtu), up by $0.08/dmtu; Mn37% from South Africa was assessed at $4.14/dmtu, up by $0.09/dmtu and Mn46% from Australia was at $4.69/dmtu CIF India, up by $0.09/dmtu w-o-w.

Additionally, South32 raised Sep’25 offers for South African 37% manganese ore to $4.05/dmtu (up $0.15) and Australian 42% ore to $4.45/dmtu (up $0.10), citing stronger Chinese SiMn prices and improved steel sentiment.

Ferro molybdenum prices rise w-o-w on supply crunch

Indian ferro molybdenum prices increased by INR 20,000/t ($231/t) w-o-w to INR 2,870,000/t ($33,196/t) exw. Ongoing molybdenum oxide shortage in the domestic market has prompted sellers to raise their offers. Additionally, LME molybdenum prices remained stable, edging up by $0.01/lb week-on-week to $22.97/lb.

Ferro vanadium prices ease w-o-w on muted trading activity

Indian ferro vanadium (FeV 50%) prices declined by INR 7,000/t ($81/t) week-on-week to INR 1,070,000/t ($12,381/t) ex-Raipur, amid ongoing sluggish market activity. Weak demand from the special steel sector, driven by the seasonal slowdown in construction, kept buyers on the sidelines. A lack of fresh inquiries further pressured producers, while declining Chinese prices added to the bearish sentiment in the Indian market.

Ferro titanium prices see minor w-o-w decline

Ferro titanium (Ti: 70%, 10–50 mm) prices dipped by INR 1,600/t ($19/t) week-on-week, settling at INR 338,400/t ($3,917/t) ex-works India. Market activity remained subdued both domestically and internationally, with sentiment largely unchanged.

IEX spot prices dip w-o-w

Electricity prices on the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) stood at INR 4.48/unit during 20-26 July, down from INR 4.86/unit in the previous week.
