Top Ferrous Scrap Exporters & Importers during H1 2016

With the recent release of customs data by major countries, it is legible that EU-28 is the largest exporter of ferrous scrap, followed by USA, Japan and Russia. Whereas, Turkey remained the largest importer of ferrous scrap during H1 2016, followed by India and South Korea.

With the recent release of customs data by major countries, it is legible that collectively 20.79 MnT of ferrous scrap was exported by the four major exporters. Whereas, Turkey remained the largest importer of ferrous scrap during H1 2016, followed by India and South Korea.

EU ferrous scrap exports grow by 5%

EU, the largest exporter, exported 7.59 MnT in H1 2016. The nation registered a growth of 5% Y-o-Y. Major importers to EU were Turkey (4.46 MnT), India (0.83 MnT), Pakistan (0.70 MnT), USA (0.47 MnT) and Switzerland (0.22 MnT).

USA exports down by 19% Y-o-Y

The second largest ferrous scrap exporter, USA registered a fall of 19% Y-o-Y to 5.98 MnT in export during H1 2016. Major importers to USA were Turkey (1.48 MnT), Taiwan (0.93 MnT), India (0.85), South Korea (0.43 MnT) and China (0.39 MnT). The nation had exported 7.09 MnT during H1 2015.

Japan witnesses a growth of 14% Y-o-Y

With 4.70 MnT exported in H1 2016, the nation witnessed a growth of 14% Y-o-Y. Japan had exported 4.03 MnT during H1 2015. South Korea, the largest importer of Japanese ferrous scrap, imported 1.73 MnT. Other importers were Vietnam (1.20 MnT), China (0.87 MnT), Taiwan (0.59 MnT) and Bangladesh (0.13 MnT).

Russia exports decrease by 8%

The nation exported 2.52 MnT during H1 2016, registered a fall of 8% Y-o-Y. Major importers were Turkey (1.32 MnT), South Korea (0.47 MnT), Belarus (0.29 MnT), Spain (0.26 MnT) and Portugal (0.04 MnT).

Turkey registers a growth of 8% Y-o-Y during H1

Turkey remained the largest importer of ferrous scrap during H1 2016. The nation witnessed a growth of 8% Y-o-Y. Major exporters to Turkey were USA (1.90 MnT), Russia (1.43 MnT), Netherlands (1.25 MnT), United Kingdom (1.14 MnT) and Belgium (1 MnT). The nation imported 8.45 MnT during H1 2015.

India imported 3.36 MnT of ferrous scrap, 17% more Y-o-Y

With imports of 3.36 MnT, India registered a growth of 17% Y-o-Y. The nation had imported 2.78 MnT during H1 2015. Major exporters to India were USA (0.58 MnT), UK (0.58 MnT), UAE (0.43 MnT), Australia (0.19 MnT) and Singapore (0.18 MnT).

South Korea witnesses a growth of 18% Y-o-Y in ferrous scrap imports

South Korea, the 3rd largest importer of ferrous scrap, imported 3.21 MnT during H1 2016; witnessed a growth of 18% Y-o-Y. Major exporters were Japan (2.01 MnT), Russia (0.57 MnT), USA (0.44 MnT), Puerto Rico (0.04 MnT) and Costa Rica (0.02 MnT).
