Pig iron exports from India observed some momentum in the month of July 2016 due to rising interest from Bangladesh based buyers. Total exports in July were reported at around 23,000 MT against 2,000 MT in the month of June 2016. Exports rise on account of a bulk shipment of 20,000 MT made by Sesa Sterlite Ltd to Bangladesh from Goa port.
SteelMint learned that demand from Bangladesh has improved due to recent import duty imposed on billets. Also steelmaking capacity is increasing in the country which has resulted in increase in imports of HBI, Sponge, Scrap and Pig Iron.
There were two more bulk deals of about 30,000 MT, which concluded in July 2016 and due for shipment in September.
Current export prices for Indian Pig iron is assessed at around USD 240-245/MT FOB India main port.
