Super Smelters-a leading sponge iron producer in east India has begun commercial production at its pellet plant.
Its pellet plant has an installed capacity of 0.6 MnT pa and is located in West Bengal. The plant produces pellets of grade Fe 63.5+.The pellet plant successfully completed its trial run in Apr’16 following which it has started commercial production now.
A company official in conversation with SteelMint shared that presently pellet offers of Super Smelters is INR 3,400/MT (ex-plant).
However other pellet manufacturers in West Bengal are seen offering at INR 3,200/MT (basic).
Super Smelters pellet sourcing remains nil in Q1 FY17
In Q1 FY17 (Apr’16-Jun’16) Super Smelters did not source any pellet rake from merchant market. In last fiscal it had sourced nearly 0.16 MnT pellets from merchant market primarily from Jindal Steel & Power and Arya Iron & Steel.
In Q1 FY17, it procured nearly 0.18 MnT iron ore from Odisha merchant mines. Majority (72%) of it was sourced from Rungta Mines.
