South Africa-based Anglo American has recently announced its Q2 2016 production results. According to the report, the miner produced around 8.9 MnT iron ore from Kumba in Q2 2016.
Kumba’s iron ore production remained unchanged at 8.9 in Q1 and Q2 2016, whereas Minas-Rio’s iron ore production was up by around 6% when compared with Q1 2016.
Kumba’s production down by 15% in Q2 2016
Kumba’s iron ore production was down by around 15% as compared to Q2 2015 (10.4 MnT). In H1 2016, Kumba’s iron ore production was registered at 17.8 MnT, down by around 21% as it was 22.6 MnT in H1 2015.
Production was down as Sishen’s operations were impacted by the implementation of revised mining plan, as a result, there was around 31% reduction in employees. Due to which production decreased by 21% to 5.7 MnT from 7.2 MnT as compared to last quarter.
Minas-Rio iron ore production significantly increased by 94%
Iron ore production from Minas-Rio stood at 3.5 MnT in Q2 2016, significantly up by 94% as compared to 1.8 MnT in Q2 2015. However, in H1 2016, iron ore production from Minas-Rio stood at 6.8 MnT, which is more than double when compared with 3 MnT in H1 2015.
Production was up significantly as operations at Minas-Rio continuous to ramp up.
